Why Jhamtse?
Jhamtse exists to make visible what becomes possible when love and compassion become a way of life.
We live in a time of extraordinary possibility - and profound disconnection. Jhamtse grew from a simple belief:

Jhamtse Gatsal is a community in which children and adults are growing together - learning not only how to succeed in the world, but how to become compassionate, capable and purposeful human beings. This whole-person formation - heart, mind, body, relationships, responsibility, purpose and service - is at the heart of what makes Jhamtse different.
And something beautiful happens when people grow up knowing that they belong.
Fear can become trust.
Isolation can become connection.
Care can become responsibility.
And compassion can become service.
Jhamtse Gatsal is small, and deeply rooted in one place. But what it reveals is much larger.
It makes visible the possibility that human life can be organized differently - around love, compassion, belonging, responsibility and care.
Our intention is not to replicate Jhamtse everywhere or simply to grow an organization. It is to expand belief in what is possible: that education can nurture the heart as well as the mind; that adversity need not define a life; and that communities can help people grow into human beings who care for one another and the world around them.
That is why Jhamtse exists.
To rekindle the human spirit.
To rebuild the human community.
And to help make love and compassion visible in the way we live.
