LEARNING & GROWING

Nurturing heart, mind and body.

At Jhamtse Gatsal, education is about more than what children know. It is about who they become - nurturing curiosity, compassion, responsibility, resilience, and the confidence to engage meaningfully with the world around them.

THE GARDENER’S APPROACH

Every child grows differently.

A gardener understands that every plant is unique: its needs, contribution and natural pace of growth are different. At Jhamtse Gatsal, adults seek to offer timely, consistent care for the whole child. The aim is not selective growth, but the conditions in which each child’s full potential can take root, recover and flourish.

Learning moves from experience to understanding to action.

The Jhamtse learning cycle gives children a clear sequence for making knowledge their own.

  1. Learn

Gather knowledge and experience by listening, reading, observing and doing.

  2. Reflect

Think, discuss and debate - alone and with others - to understand and make meaning.

  3. Engage

Put cultivated understanding into action for oneself, other people and the wider community.

Seven Elements of Growth

These seven elements form a developmental framework that connects learning with relationships, choices and everyday life.

Love

Creating the care and belonging in which growth can begin.

Compassion

Learning to notice another’s needs and respond with care.

Responsibility

Understanding that choices and actions have consequences.

Interdependence

Seeing how each person’s actions take shape within a community.

Equanimity

Cultivating steadiness and balance in how we meet experience.

Gratitude

Recognizing what the Earth, the community and other people give.

Generosity

Sharing time, care and resources in response to another’s needs.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Learning happens everywhere.

Study is one part of education. Responsibility, reflection, culture and participation in community life turn ideas into lived understanding.

Space to reflect

Meditation, well-being and self-reflective practices cultivate awareness, emotional balance and compassion.

Culture carried forward

Prayers, debate, songs, dance and learning about ethics help children stay connected to culture while developing their own voice.

TEACHING BY EXAMPLE

Children learn from how adults live.

The adults of Jhamtse Gatsal are Teachers of Life. In classrooms and across the community, they teach through presence, responsibility, service, patience, consistency and care. Their example makes education a relationship, not simply an exchange of information.

SEE WHAT GROWS

Learning that becomes a life.

The clearest evidence of an education rooted in the whole person is found in the lives people go on to shape.

Learning becomes something we live.

At Jhamtse Gatsal, values become daily practices through reflection, responsibility, care and service. Continue into the ways love and compassion are put into action.
