Rinchen Tsering
From Uncertain Beginnings to a Heartfelt Return Home
Then…
When we first met Rinchen, he was a scared and quiet boy. His parents had divorced, his father left the family behind, and his stepfather showed no interest in supporting him. His mother, who was a farmer, struggled to make ends meet and provide for her children. The family’s financial hardship made education nearly impossible. When Rinchen’s mother passed away from cancer, his future was uncertain.
Now…
With determination and the support of the Jhamtse Gatsal sponsorship community, Rinchen earned a degree in Travel and Tourism Management, becoming the first person in his family to complete any type of formal education. He spent over three years working at a travel agency in Delhi, but his heart remained with the community that raised him. In 2025, Rinchen returned to Jhamtse Gatsal to serve as our Admin and Operations Manager. Now, he’s learning what it takes to lead a compassionate organization from the inside out. Sensitive, thoughtful, and quick to respond with kindness, Rinchen is not only building a meaningful career—he’s becoming a role model for the next generation.
Dawa Chodron
From a Struggling Household to a Future Full of Possibility

Dawa grew up in deeply challenging circumstances. Both of her parents suffered from severe alcoholism, and her father likely passed away due to related causes. Her mother, still struggling with addiction, works as a subsistence farmer—when she’s able to. Dawa’s home life was marked by instability, hardship, and a lack of consistent support. Her family’s situation remains extremely difficult.
Now…
Despite these obstacles, Dawa’s journey has become one of resilience and hope. After graduating from Jhamtse Gatsal, she earned a scholarship to pursue higher education in Bangalore. Now in her third year of college, Dawa is studying History and thriving in an environment where she can grow and explore her potential. A dedicated and thoughtful student, she’s still discovering the path she’ll take after graduation—but one thing is certain: Dawa is determined to use her education to give back and make a meaningful difference in the world.
Lobsang Yudron
From Humble Beginnings to a Dream of Sharing Joy Through Food

Lobsang grew up as the only child of a single mother. With no information about her father and aging grandparents unable to assist, her mother worked tirelessly on short-term contracts just to get by. Knowing she couldn’t provide the care and opportunities her daughter needed, she made the courageous decision to send Lobsang to Jhamtse Gatsal. Their family continued to face extreme hardship, but Lobsang became the first and only member of her family to receive an education.
Now…
Today, Lobsang is following her passion in South India, where she is studying Hospitality Management and Catering Studies. She finds joy in cooking and experimenting with new recipes, dreaming of one day working in a professional kitchen and opening her own restaurant. With each step forward, Lobsang is proving that love, education, and opportunity can spark transformation—and that even the most modest beginnings can lead to bold and beautiful futures.
