Why
Jhamtse for Earth
In 2018, our graduating seniors introduced Jhamtse for Earth, now a Wipro earthian awardee, to launch our zero-waste journey. Seeing degradation and waste marking their once pristine hillsides within their own lifetime compelled our young adults to take action.
What
Through collaborative and compassionate workshops, they channeled the Community’s consciousness into understanding our role in perpetuating the problem and consequently committing to practicing the 4Rs of restoring the environment while reducing, reusing, and recycling waste.
How
As a Community, we actively work to:
Restore
- Coordinating cleanup drives on our campus and public areas.
- Planting trees to replenish the forest cover in the region.
- Using sustainable agricultural practices to restore soil health.
Reduce
- Growing our own food instead of buying packaged food.
- Buying in bulk and carrying our own shopping bags for purchases.
- Building social enterprises to make our own soaps, fertilizers, etc.
Reuse
- Using tetrapaks, soccer balls, tin cans, etc., to grow saplings safely
- Converting egg trays, old tires, clothing, etc., into usable furniture.
- Using food cans and glass jars as vases, pen stands, mugs, etc.
Recycle
- Build roads using plastic waste with the Plastic Man of India, Dr. R. Vasudevan.
- Recycle our organic waste to prepare vermicompost and bioenzymes.
- Collect, segregate, and recycle plastic waste into usable products in our UPCYCLING PLASTIC program.
