How Sponsorship Works
By becoming a child sponsor at Jhamtse Gatsal (garden of love and compassion), you enable a child to realize their potential and serve humanity for greater good – a changemaker of tomorrow.
Our sponsorship program is vital for the ongoing sustainability and growth of Jhamtse Gatsal. It provides for the children’s essential needs. We therefore hope to have our children fully sponsored from their first day at Jhamtse Gatsal up to their first day of employment.

When You Sponsor a Child
When you sponsor a child, you first receive access to a sponsor only webpage that offers photos, letters and reports from and about your sponsored child. After that on an annual basis you will receive an additional update which will include new photos, letters or drawings, and more.
Your ongoing generosity and support will ensure the child(ren) you sponsor will receive one of the best educations (of the heart, mind and body) in the world, and through these regular updates, you get to watch them grow and learn. Your support provides:
- A loving and compassionate home and family with Ama la’s (house mothers) and older siblings
- An education of the heart, mind and body
- Nutritious food and integrative healthcare (medical and dental)
- Experiential learning with organic farming, earthen construction, and sustainability practices like renewable energy and plastic recycling.
- Support through higher education until their first day of employment

Here’s what you can expect when you become part of the Jhamtse Family sponsorship community:
- A quarterly newsletter from the community to witness your impact in action
- 2 Jhamtse Family gathering video calls with Jhamtse Gatsal's founder, Lobsang Phuntsok, per year to share intimate updates
- 1 hand written letter from your sponsored child per year
Can I write to my sponsored child?
Yes! You can write to your child.
Can I write multiple letters to my sponsored child?
Thank you so much for wanting to stay in touch with your sponsored child! To help each child balance their schoolwork and community activities, we ask that sponsors send one letter per year, by August 31st. This timing gives your child enough space to read your letter thoughtfully and write you a personal reply, which you’ll receive before the end of the year. Keeping it to one letter per season ensures every child has the time they need to connect meaningfully with each of their sponsors.
Sponsorship Opportunity and Commitment
While minimum sponsorships are $420 USD per year or $35 per month, the actual costs to provide for all the children’s needs are much higher. As such our Program is grounded in a “It takes a village to raise a child” philosophy. This means most children will have multiple sponsors from around the world creating a cycle of generosity, love and compassion.
If you live in the US: Your contributions are tax-deductible under U.S. tax regulations. As a non-profit, Jhamtse International is tax exempt in the United States under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code.
