A message from our founder

The most positive change that I see in the children of Jhamtse Gatsal today is that where they had nothing and no hope in their life; today, they are dreaming and thinking of doing something for the world at large; they are inspired to pay forward the kindness of their supporters and caregivers. This, to me, is the biggest achievement of all.

Sponsorship Options Around the World
Jhamtse International sponsorship is available worldwide. Visitors in Germany, Switzerland, or India may alternatively choose a regional Jhamtse sponsorship pathway when local giving or tax considerations make that useful.
Questions Sponsors Often Ask
What is the Jhamtse Family Portal, and how will I stay connected?
Your Jhamtse Family Portal is your home for staying connected. You can follow your sponsored child’s journey through updated photos and information, read Community Updates from Jhamtse, send messages to your sponsored child, and return to your correspondence over time.
We’ll also continue sharing broader news and opportunities to connect with the Jhamtse community throughout the year.
Will I be my child’s only sponsor?
No. A child may be supported by more than one sponsor. Each sponsorship helps care for the whole child as part of the wider Jhamtse community.
How often can I write to the child I sponsor?
You’re welcome to write as often as you’d like through the Jhamtse Family Portal. Jhamtse staff review each message before sharing it with your sponsored child to ensure it is safe, caring, and appropriate, and to remain compliant with India’s child privacy and protection laws.
Each child writes back once annually, with support from a teacher when needed. We encourage you to send at least one letter by August 31 to be part of that year’s reply cycle, but August 31 is not a hard cutoff and you are welcome to keep writing throughout the year.
Can I send gifts or packages?
Individual gifts and packages are not permitted at Jhamtse. This helps ensure that every child experiences the same sense of belonging, care, and fairness within the community, including children who may not currently have a sponsor.
Your sponsorship itself is a meaningful and lasting gift, supporting the child you sponsor as part of the wider Jhamtse community.
Can I visit Jhamtse Gatsal?
Visits are possible. Because Jhamtse Gatsal is located in a very remote part of Arunachal Pradesh and special permits are required to reach us, visits are primarily organized as group travel.
These visits generally center around retreats with Jhamtse Gatsal’s founder, Lobsang Phuntsok, and offer an opportunity to experience life at Jhamtse more deeply. Please contact Jhamtse to ask about current opportunities.
Why isn’t more information about my sponsored child’s family shared?
Protecting the privacy and wellbeing of every child is deeply important to us. Child-protection and privacy requirements in India limit the amount of personal family background we are able to share.
We know sponsors sometimes have natural questions about a child’s history. While we may not be able to provide those details, we’ll continue sharing meaningful updates about your sponsored child’s growth, learning, interests, and life at Jhamtse Gatsal.
